Gift Shop
By offering physical derivatives via the Color Museum’s Gift Shop, we unlock new sources of income for artists and collectors while increasing accessibility and modes of enjoyment of the underlying art.
Through our network of partnerships with established manufacturers, artists publishing into the Curated Collection are able to offer their artwork in various printed applications and in the context of fashion as wearable art.
Printed items include the following 20 form factors:
- Framed Prints
- Canvas Prints
- Fine Art Prints
- Posters
- Phone Cases
- Journals
- Notebooks
- Mousepads
- Gaming Pads
- Yoga Mats
- Jigsaw Puzzles
- Water Bottles
- Face Masks
- Wrapping Papers
- Coffee Mugs
- Apple Watch Straps
- Tablet Cases
- Laptop Sleeves
- Tote Bags
- Duffel Bags
We plan to continously expand this list as we establish new manufacturing partnerships with new capabilities. Artists are free to choose the applications suitable for their art.
Printed products are made on demand, posing no inventory risk for the Color Museum or the artist. Most items are ready to ship within 48 hours, available for delivery across the world. Our partners are already producing and fulfilling orders at scale for the world's leading legacy museums and traditional brands.
Fashion products include classic apparel categories that are available on demand, as well as pre-order campaigns for products of higher complexity which do not currently have an on demand supply chain. More information regarding these fashion activations will be made available as we explore further with our bespoke fashion partner, CALA.
Artists are able to set their own pricing above the base production and fulfillment costs for the item.
We pass on the exact quoted costs from the manufacturers and maintain no margin at this waypoint.
However, we plan to assess a 5% Gift Shop fee on the amount charged to the purchaser above the base cost; to be paid into the Color Museum Treasury and as Color Yield. This fee is competitive to fees charged to merchants selling similar products on Amazon and Etsy, who charge platform fees of 15% and 6.5% respectively.
Artists are able to incentivize collectors to hold the underlying NFT by sharing a portion of revenue from Gift Shop sales of the artwork that the collector holds, at the artist’s discretion.
The Curated Collection is the incubator for this new model, with broader access to this selling tool to open to more creators in the future.
Note: This is a roadmap item slated for public launch in early Q2 2023.
